How to fall down a grade 5 rapid and walk away

20.05.12

The activities at river valley included horse riding and white water rafting.....I don't do horses, although think thats likely to change later in my trip, and felling under the weather didn't fancy getting drenched in icy water.

So Amie went horse riding, no problems there, Sam and Dan watched the Chelsea game and seemed happy with the out come, and Geoff went white water rafting......minus the raft for part of it!

The raft wasn't lined up properly for a grade 5 water fall rapid, approx 2 m high, and when they threw a rope across to try and correct it, geoff slipped and fell out the raft and landed on rocks at the bottom.....on his back.

If he wasn't so stacked it could have killed him.

But being the awkward, stubborn canadian he kept saying he was fine, until we convinced him once we'd reached Wellington to go to A and E to get checked out.....well the good news is he'll be fine, but he has fractured a disk in his spine, causing 14% compression of T12.

Just as well he's friends with equally stubborn girls who made him get checked out!

This blip, is of Geoff pre diagnosis.
