Silk Weaver

Debby Kirby is the resident silk weaver at Walford Mill Crafts, Wimborne, Dorset.

Her hand loom occupies a tight space on a mezzanine floor, from where she produces beautiful hand woven silk items such as scarves.

The silk is spun in Italy and Debby dyes it herself before weaving.

With her confined in such a small space, I can't help think of Rapunzel, weaving in her cell, and letting down her golden tresses.

"Rapunzel, Rapunzel, let down your hair, so I might climb the golden stair"

A little known factoid which makes this set up so appealing to me, is that I have a Degree in Textile Technology and a Diploma (First Class) in Weaving.
