Gillipaw's Journal

Remembering Winston Churchill

Churchill's funeral took place fifty years ago today, and I remember watching it on television.  I think my clearest memories are of the coffin being carried down The Thames, on the Havengore, and Tower Bridge opening for this great occasion.

There have been services in Parliament and Westminster Abbey today to mark the anniversary.

We visited his grave in Bladon 18 months ago, after a day at Blenheim Palace - his birthplace.

My Mum gave me this Crown coin back in 1965, to remember the occasion.  I found it this evening, along with mementos of other state events.
