Christian Refugees Flee to Lebanon

Umta Dunkhakoris looks into the camera. The young girl lives with her parents and two sisters in their one-room apartment. They have been entirely dependent on aid from Lebanese families and the St. George Cathedral of the Assyrian Church of the East in Beirut to survive, including the $500 rent for their tiny space – which according to Dunkhakorkis, was $100 before the refugee crisis in Lebanon pushed renting prices sky-high. They fled Mosul in the summer of 2014 when it was taken by the Islamic State.
