Sunlit Terrazzo

Though the tradition of terrazzo tiles comes from Italy, these traditional tiles are an element typically found in older Lebanese houses from the late 1800s and after as well. The craft of making artisanal handmade tiles had nearly all but disappeared in the country before Edgard Chaya brought it back in the late 1990s. The decline of handmade cement tiles in Lebanon coincided with the start of mass production of marble becoming more popular as it became more affordable.
