6000ft or thereabouts

We booked a trip to view the sunset and night skies on Mt Teide.
This is Spains highest mountain at just over 12000ft.
The roads up are reasonable, very steep in parts as they wind up to the various viewpoints but if you have a head for heights it`s not bad...unless you happen to be my husband.
He started off sitting by the window, changed to the aisle seat and spent most of the trip to this point looking at the floor.
This is the bit where there is a big layby and viewpoint for the sunset. He was happy here as there wasn`t a drop (well not one that you could see).
Wrapped in blankets looking like Navaho Indians and drinking chilled Cava, we watched the sun go down. By then it was pitch black and he couldn`t see the rest of the road up to the hotel where we had a 3 course dinner then went out in the freezing cold to view the night sky.
I must admit I was proud of him for going ahead with this trip given his fear of heights/steep drops and it was well worth it. Maybe next time we`ll do the cable car
