Soho Square

I had a press event in Soho today and had to walk through Soho Square to get there, a patch of grass I'd never visited before.

The info board explained that Soho Square, and Soho itself, probably derives its name from the hunting term 'So-ho!' Originally called Kings Square probably in honour of Charles II whose statue once stood on a pedestal and was decorated with figures representing the rivers Thames, Severn, Tyne and Humber with water supplied from a windmill over in Oxford Street. The pedestal has long since gone.

The park hides a number of bunkers built underground during World War II. It was a bit too cold to investigate that!
