Acer Pensylvanicum Bark

We had a lovely day out with the garden group of our U3A today. We started by visiting the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham for a brewery tour. This was followed by lunch in the Bistro.

Then on to Littlethorpe Manor, near Ripon, for a garden tour and in particular the winter garden. The gardens are really lovely but they only do group tours so not a place you can visit if you happen to be in the area. The bark on the Acer Pensylvanicum caught my eye as I had never seen this tree before.

Before leaving tea and cakes were served in the orangery. We were expecting just a cup of tea and, for some, it was a lovely surprise for there to be hot quiche, Norwegian waffles with jam and cream, Victoria sponge, carrot cake and more. Fortunately for our waistlines Guy and I are unable to digest milk products so we just had a cup of tea.
