Temple of the Dawn

The Temple of the Dawn is well known for the central prang (Khmer-style tower). It's name is very fitting because the first light in the morning beautifully reflects off the colorful porcelain decorating all surfaces of the temple.

The entire temple was moved across the large river flowing through Bangkok in the late 1700s by one king, abandoned for a while, and then restored in the early 1800s by the next king. This shot gives you a better perspective of the river. Moving the whole temple was no small feat.

I had a little laugh while looking up information about the temple. I read "...during the time of Rama I it moved to the other side of the river." Does anyone else think about finicky hippopotamus with that statement?

Maybe it's just me. :)
