Bullseye!

I was rather amused today to see what I thought was something stuck to a leaf of Rhododendron macabeanum. A closer inspection, however, showed it to be a cone from a Japanese larch which had fallen from a great height and penetrated the tough leaf.

This is why we close the garden on windy days. I wouldn't like a visitor to be hit on the head by even a half-inch stick three feet long coming down from the tree-tops - and we get a lot of those!
