Strike!

The National Gallery has told 400 of its 600 staff they are to be taken over by a private company. These staff are responsible for the security of the paintings and the public, provide information about the collection, organise school bookings and look after the millions of visitors each year.

These staff members are loyal and knowledgeable and care about the National Gallery but the mandarins who run it already fail to pay the London Living Wage. Making the contract private is part of a cost cutting exercise that will drive down wages and standards.

This week staff members have been on a 5 day strike. Today they handed a 40,000+ signed petition to their bosses and to the Culture, Media & Sport Department in Whitehall who are meant to oversee the gallery.

I have 12 images on my Flickr photo-stream.

I have set myself a Mono Month Challenge (MMC). For the whole of February I will only Blip Mono images...
