Glamis Castle, Angus

First day of our walking club three day break.  We travelled up to Angus, and walked from the village of Glamis around beautiful woodland at Hunters Hill, and then into Angle Park and walked up to Glamis Castle, and around the estate before walking back to Glamis.  It was warmer up there than our hometown, so we enjoyed the sunshine a lot.

Glamis Castle is the home of the Earl and Countess of Strathmore and Kinghorne, and is open to the public.
Glamis Castle has been the home of the Lyon family since the 14th century, though the present building dates largely from the 17th century. Glamis was the childhood home of Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother, wife of King George VI. Their second daughter, Princess Margaret, Countess of Snowdon, was born there.
The castle is protected as a category A listed building and the grounds are included on the Inventory of Gardens and Designed Landscapes in Scotland, the national listing of significant gardens.

We then headed up to Carnoustie, where we were staying at the Carnoustie Golf Hotel.  Had some time to relax, go swimming, to the gym, whatever one fancied, then had a lovely dinner.

And we organised a ceilidh, which was a great success and we went to bed exhausted but happy.
