Karting Grand Prix

A year ago the Southern Group of Motoring Writers, of which I am currently chairman, held its inaugural Karting Grand Prix, and invited teams from motor industry press offices to compete. The winners were a team from Fiat.

It went down so well that we decided to make it an annual event, and the second one took place today. The venue was a dramatic indoor kart track on three levels, at Crawley in Sussex. We had a full house of 20 teams competing, with four or five people in each, and the race was three hours long.

By the end of it we had new victors, the Peugeot team, with Renault second, Audi third, Ford fourth, defending champions Fiat fifth, and a team from Kent Surrey Sussex Air Ambulance in sixth place.

As well as the event being great camaraderie and a lot of fun, we were also fund raising for KSS Air Ambulance, and handed them a cheque for £4,350 at the end of the evening. Rather a good result all round.
