Gunners from 105th Regiment Royal Artillery fire a 21-Gun Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle on Friday, 6th February 2015 at 12 noon to commemorate the Accession to the throne of Her Majesty The Queen.

Princess Elizabeth acceded to the throne as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II on 6th February 1952, and was crowned on 2nd June 1953.

Commenting on the Salute Commanding Officer of 105th Regiment Lieutenant Colonel Frank Ward said:

"The Regiment is honoured to be firing the Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle to commemorate the Accession of Her Majesty The Queen.

“The Royal Salute provides a great occasion for the Gunners to display their professionalism and pride in conducting such an honour in Scotland’s capital city.

“We are also delighted that Major General Nick Eeles, General Officer Commanding Scotland and Governor of Edinburgh Castle will be the Reviewing Officer on the day of the Salute.”

The Royal Guard will be provided by C Company, The Black Watch, 3rd Battalion The Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 SCOTS).

The Guard Commander, Captain Iain Walker said:

“It will be a great honour to mount the Castle Guard for the Royal Salute at Edinburgh Castle and highlights the diverse nature of our soldiers in the modern Army.

“It will provide an opportunity for each man on parade to stand proud in front of the crowds of Edinburgh, upholding the fine reputation of our Regiment.”
