Anything for a Quiet Life

Bargain Hunt

My son, brother and I headed off to the auction house this morning to watch the sale of some of my parents possessions.

While waiting for our lots to come up, we sat and watched as bidding on one of the lots, a rather inconspicuous blue bowl with a chip on it and a twin handled oriental vase type thing, got under way. It was listed in the catalogue at an estimated price of £20-£30. We didn't reckon on there being 9 telephone bidders and soon there was a bidding war going on.

The lot eventually sold for a mere £200,000! You could have heard a pin drop in the room.

Sadly, none of my parents lots reached such heady heights but it was a fun day out and had us looking forward to the next one in a month's time.
