A Village Event

It was time for the Silent Auction again in our village hall this evening.
We sat at a big table with friends, a glass of red wine, and a buffet supper after a while. From time to time it was necessary to go round all the exhibits and place bids on the items that looked interesting!
I came home with a few bits and pieces, including a couple of gardening books. One of these has the prettiest illustrations, of which this is an example! This large hardbacked book is about Mary Russell Mitford, who gardened in the mid nineteenth century. It looks to be a fascinating book - for the price of 50p!
