Goodnight Rydal

After deliberating for some time over when to go up to the Lakes, I plumped for late this morning and enjoyed a gorgeous balcony stroll along the Coffin Route to a viewpoint overlooking Grasmere.  This was on the way looking over the partly frozen Rydal Water just as the sun was disappearing.

The route was indeed to take dead bodies to the nearest church but they weren’t actually in coffins.  Apparently, they kept the local trade going with a wool shroud (which I guess was a touch lighter too!)

It was a gorgeous still evening and a roaring red sunset a little later on but I was back in the toasty van then having dinner.
