Torry Coo

The foghorn adjacent to the Girdleness Lighthouse near the entrance to Aberdeen harbour. It is nicknamed the Torry Coo because the sound it made was like a cow mooing. Torry being an area of Aberdeen to the south of the Dee.

A sea monster which lived in the bay thought the foghorn was a potential mate. The monster used to swim the area looking for the origin of the noise. The monster can sleep peacefully now as the foghorn was completed in 1902 and decommissioned in 1987.

The adjacent lighthouse was established in 1833 having been designed by Robert Stevenson.

Warm and sunny today, for a pleasant change.
