The colours of Lisbon

I was going to do Derelict Thursday today, but once again I was seduced by Lisbon's colours and light. You can see my Derelict Thursday non-blip here.

We went to Belem today. Naturally we were required to visit the Monasterio de Jeronimos where we joined a lot of other people taking photos. Selfie sticks abounded, but this couple had found an alternative. Then we walked a long way to find a combined wine shop and restaurant S had identified on TripAdvisor. Lovely tapas and desserts, but we weren't so impressed with the large lumps of overcooked meat served as main courses, and it was a bit pricy by Portuguese standards.

Then more touristing: to the Tower of Belem (not very interesting) and a long hot walk back down towards the monastery. Despite the large lunch, we felt fully justified in calling in to thefamous pastisseria for a rest and the obligatory pasteis de Belem, lovely creamy custard tarts. I can already vouch for the fact that the Portuguese rival the French in patisserie skills, and we took some more home with us for later. In the short time we were there they must have wheeled literally hundreds of tarts out of the kitchen, and ours were still crisp and warm from the oven.

And then two crowded trams back to our little apartment, for a well deserved rest and a glass or two of wine.
