Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The sand mill

Take some assorted pebbles and let the sea bash them around for a few centuries and you have sand.
The strange object at bottom right, partly colonised with barnacles, isn't a pebble it is an animal washed up from the deep, a lump of Alcyonium digitatum or dead man's fingers, a species of soft coral.
After a few brief moments of early morning sun the weather has turned grey, wet and thoroughly miserable.
