Life is a Minestrone !!

RIP Mr Blackbird............

I reversed the car onto the drive this morning as i do every morning when i get home from work. Handbrake on, ignition off, opened the drivers door and the screeching hit me, in the middle of the garden was a very very agitated female Blackbird, about 4 feet beyond the female Blackbird was a Sparrow Hawk who had made a meal of Mr Blackbird.............
The Sparrow hawk had grabbed the Blackbird and backed himself under one of the hedges. There were feathers everywhere..........Unfortunately Mr Blackbird was well beyond saving. It took me a couple of minutes to get the Sparrowhawk out of the hedge and retrieve what was left of Mr Blackbird.

Mrs B, flew away to safety.......

As a couple, the Blackbirds have been permanent features of both the front and back garden for months, he was a stunning little bird and he'll be missed. I hope Mrs B will be ok.......!!

20 minutes later, and the Sparrows and Dunnocks were back on the feeders and hopping around on the lawn.

Life goes on..........and woody carried on getting stuck into the four suet blocks we have in the front and back gardens, carrying away chunks into the trees opposite, presumably to feed his young.

Larger Woody........

Have a good day.......!!
