Dovercourt Lighthouses

Today we headed to Harwich. Our plan was to take photos at the Beacon Hill Fort. This fort has similar structures to the one at Landguard in Felixstowe, however the Harwich one is in a very poor state of repair and the site is fenced off, although people do clearly seem to be gaining access.

The sun was shining and we walked to the two lighthouses at Dovercourt. They were built in1863 to provide ships with safe entry to the Harbour in Harwich. They were decommissioned in 1917.

We then waked back along the esplanade to Harwich. It's easy to think of Harwich as the ferry port, however almost at every turn the town is full of maritime history, the old town or"village" as one place has called it has a real charm. Finished off with some chips from pieseas Fish and Chips. Simple pleasures.
