Fasciation

Fascinating, but it is a woody shoot malformation. It's the first time I have seen it on forsythia but I have noticed on lilies. Doesn't seem to have any detriment to the plant, but it does seem strange to have a flat stem where normally it would be rounded. So there it is fasinating fascination.
