Ely Walker

The Ely Walker building on Washington Avenue in downtown St. Louis is an architectural marvel and a massive structure, occupying an entire city block. St. Louis was the fourth largest city in the United States in the year 1900, and Washington Avenue was a thriving cultural and manufacturing center of dry goods and fashion garments. Although St. Louis experienced economic downturn in subsequent decades, Ely Walker is part of a recent and expanding revitalization in the downtown area. Today, the building has been transformed into high end, modern loft apartments and is a building that many locals call home.
