Kurdish demonstration in Edmonton

Met up with a group of Bleeding Londoners to snap a few N18 (Edmonton) streets this morning.
I decided to go by bus which was perhaps not the best decision as the whole area seemed to be in traffic gridlock due to roadworks on the North Circ so I arrived a bit later than planned.  Still time to snap some streets before meeting up at the Gilpin's Bell in Fore St for lunch.  It's a modern Wetherspoon's pub but named in memory of the Bell Inn (which formerly stood further up on the other side of the road) where John Gilpin became separated from his wife and children in the ballad. There's a sculpture approximately where the pub would have been.
While we were having lunch this Kurdish demonstration demanding freedom for Abdullah Ocalan, founder of the Kurdish workers party, who has been imprisioned in Turkey since 1999, processed along Fore St. The campaign website is http://www.freeocalan.org/ if you want to find out more.
So today I have dipped into the history of Edmonton and Middle East politics. No time to be side-tracked by either next week though as I have to prepare for my Archway walk on Saturday and get on with research for the up-coming Barnsbury walkshop.
