A multitude of birds

Blip mate introduced me to a new place to spot birds today. It is a small part of the Waimea Estuary which is the largest enclosed estuary in the South Island of NewZealand. Mind bogglingly, the estuary has an internal coastline of 65 kms.

The tide was well on the way in and a variety of birds had been driven to perch on this little shallow patch of saltwart while they waited for the tide to recede. There were a lot of black swans floating - many appeared asleep on the water and welcome swallows darted everwhere.

It was a calm and beautiful start to the day.
