River Ping

Today we took a boat ride along the River Ping. Our destination was a fruit farm about 10km north. Once there we enjoyed a lovely lunch, and then a huge plate of fresh fruit.
This chap was harvesting his sweet corn on the river banks. The boat helmsman told us that "in the old days" it used to take 3 weeks to reach Bangkok by river, and it's now about 1 1/2 hours by plane.
Talking of which, one of Dylan's old housemates from uni arrived in the evening, along with his wife. She teaches the English curriculum at an ex-pat school in Bangkok, and he works for the British Embassy there. We enjoyed a very pleasant evening with them, which was our latest yet, arriving back at the hotel at about 1am (Teresa had gone to bed with the children earlier).
Did you know that on average, one Brit dies every day in Thailand? Now there's a sobering thought.
"Our man in Bangkok" said if there's one thing he'd like to stress to British passport holders, it's the importance of completing the "next of kin" details - without this information it can cause big problems all round.
Go on - do it now while you think about it.
