The First of the Season

...with hopefully many more to come! Nothing beats a breakfast of fresh fruit from the garden. Our small bed of raspberries has produced well over the years, with very little effort from the gardeners. The vines came from a friend who was eager to clear out his hillside; he didn't know the variety, but they had been passed around in his family for quite some time.

Yesterday we planted five different kinds of sunflower seeds along the back fence; since the packets were several years old we aren't sure if we'll get anything at all. I'm hoping for at least six plants to sprout and escape the snails long enough to reach the promised ten feet tall.
