Desert Squirrel

Blot on the landscape

A lazy blip today.

We spent most of it driving home, often stuck behind tourist traffic, taking the bends VERY slowly, slowing for oncoming traffic, then speeding up as soon as we hit a reasonable straight with a chance of passing.  Maybe this time of year it is better to drive at night, or at least in the early hours of the morning.  The first stretch along the shore of Lake Wakatipu, was beautiful, with little traffic.

The hills around Glenorchy were covered in grey cloud this morning, so my camera didn't come out of its case.  This evening, back home, the easterly cloud came in over the Port Hills, but the sun shone through, and there was some colour in the sky.  In the end, though, I preferred this mono of the TV transmitter on Sugarloaf.  The tower is quite small from our place, but breaks the skyline, especially when I'm using the big telephoto.  I suppose we do need it, though.  Unfortunately there is now a proliferation of all kinds of transmitting and receiving devices on many of the high points along the hills.
