The Pied Bull Inn - Chester

Lunch today was at the Pied Bull situated within the walls of the historic Roman City of Chester.  Reputed to be the oldest licensed house in Chester, the pub dates from 1155.  The pub also has an original handmade staircase dating from 1533.  It is the only operational brewery (Micro Brewery) within the city walls.

It claims to have not one but two ghosts which warranted an investigation by the television show ‘Whines and Spirits’. The ghost of a man is said to haunt the cellar he is said to be John Davies who in 1609 "casually fell down a flight of stairs leading to the cellar belonging to the pied bull, and with a knife in his hand… and died".  Two of the bedrooms are said to be haunted by chambermaids who used to work at the hotel.
