R.L.P.O

In town tonight, at the Royal Concert Centre, was the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra under their conductor Vasily Petrenko.
Here the orchestra and conductor are receiving the rapturous applause of a full house audience, after brilliantly performing just two pieces - Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 - the 'Little Russian'; and Shostakovitch's Symphony No. 10.
I did not know until tonight that the RLPO is the UK's oldest continuing professional symphony orchestra, founded in1840 by one of the oldest concert societies in the world.
The orchestra is celebrating its 175th anniversary this year with various special events.
Vasily Petrenko was born in St Petersburg and is a graduate of the St Petersburg Conservatoire. He has world-wide conducting commitments, and considerable operatic conducting experience, including at the Glyndebourne festival.
We had a great night out!
