Long trek north

Much of today was spent on a long trek north, a car trip from Kent to Windermere in the Lake District. It should have been a journey of about five hours, but roadworks, long stretches of 50 mph limit under the surveillance of average speed cameras, and several accidents causing traffic jams, meant that it took a lot longer. This shot caught my eye when we were stationary - yet again - on the M6.

Earlier on we had a nice stop for lunch at a friendly little rural pub, the Wheatsheaf Inn at Woodhouse Eaves in Leicestershire, where the grub is good and the walls are covered in memorabilia from motor racing and flying.

The reason for the trip is a meeting tomorrow of AMWG, the Association of Motoring Writers' Groups, hosted by Renault at a wonderful little hotel perched high on a hillside above Lake Windermere.
