The Girls

It took us almost 5 hours to get to Napier after showing Keely Huka Falls and the sights of Taupo. The best part for her was catching up with her friends, who we were staying with for the weekend.
I saw the sun shining through the dry grass, perfect for photos and as always the girls never complain about having photos taken, but shortly after this they disturbed a nest of paper wasps resulting in some stings and great floods of tears. But they were very brave and were over it pretty quickly.
We had come to Napier for the annual Art Deco celebration weekend, a mardi gras event that lasts for four or five days. Napier was destroyed by a huge earthquake in 1931 and the whole city was rebuilt in the Art Deco style of that time.
We all got dressed up in the 30's styles and drove to town in our hosts 1939 Chev and joined the thousands of people enjoying the festivities, surrounded by hundreds of vintage cars, jazz bands and entertainment.
