Porty People and Places

The observer - observed!

On our way into town this evening to an excellent concert at St Gile's followed by a lovely supper with H and O we met this famous Portobello resident. He engaged us in conversation, assuming that as we were taking our blips at the bus stop we must be tourists. He was passionate about recording life, especially portaits, using SLR cameras loaded with chemical film.

Our fascinating conversation about Portobello's architectural and fiscal heritage made this one of the shortest bus journeys into town ever.

Portobello is a genuinely friendly and fascinating community.

I met a more recent Porty resident on the beach, when I was running this morning, who had moved from London after living there for 40 years. He was amazed by the contrast in community relations between Greenwich and Portobello. In the latter it was considered a triumph to get someone to respond to a "good morning" while here in Porty, he already knew the names of all his  neighbours!

Last night we were delighted to host D, K and R for supper with us and to hear all about J's inspirational  work, as a volunteer  A+E specialist on the Ebola front line in Sierra Leone.
