Sally Mair - Loving life

Forth Bridge

Back in South Queensferry again today for early coffee before church. The rail bridge looks spectacular with the island of Inchgarvie beneath it. Inchgarvie is uninhabited now but has had buildings on it for centuries and was used as a prison once. It has some of the foundations for the rail bridge built on the rocks around it. The buildings on the island and its colour make it look from a distance like a battleship. During the war it was used as part of the submarine and naval defences.
I love the way it is tucked in under the bridge, it looks much smaller than it really is.
