Sutherland House

We passed this place quite a few times today - more so than we anticipated, at least. I'm fairly sure I've got the name right but can't be bothered to check a map to make sure. It's on the route between Keldy and Cropton, which was the route we set out on by accident for our morning walk. We then managed to lose the route altogether and go for an unplanned bit of woodland wandering, becoming ever more aware that we had neither map nor mobile with us (and that the kids would only start to miss us when they got hungry.) We knew we were back on track when we finally managed to find the house again. Later on we were back at Cropton, this time on bikes and on purpose, to cycle round Spiers Bank. It was strangely beautiful on the top, where forest clearance had left a weird stunted landscape with views over the Vale of Pickering, and there was a long slow descent as a reward for the rather more tortuous hill up (most of which we walked...)
