C2C Day 2 - Threlkeld to Alston

A day of two contrasting halves, and difficult to choose a representative blip. This is Lynn ascending the climb from Renwick towards the A686. The cafe at the Hartside summit is visible on the horizon.

The morning took us through the north of the Lake District, beautiful rolling countryside, emerging at Penrith and on to Lanwathby for lunch. From here we moved into the Pennines, firstly seven miles of serious undulations, then culminating in a four-mile climb to the summit of Hartside Pass (1903 feet). Finally, a fast six-mile descent into Alston and our roomy, comfortable accommodation at the Alston House. Great roast chicken, Yorkshire pudding and veg followed by lemon cheese cake. Yummy and phew.

40 miles, and we're at the half-way point.
