Still Standing

In the town of Alcester we are lucky enough to have a plethora of ancient buildings to photograph for today's mono Monday challenge. ( Thankyou JoanneInOz for hosting)
This shows Butter Street where the origins of the buildings go back to the 1600s or older. It's hard to find out exactly as it is a Roman Town so there have been dwellings of some sort for a couple of thousand years. They get destroyed, rebuilt, added to and you have a hotchpotch of styles and materials ancient and modern. This is just across a narrow passage way from the Church and shows the Church House and the Verger's house and other listed buildings. There are many such timber framed buildings and they are mostly still in use as shops pubs and dwellings.
The oldest house in Alcester reputedly is the Cruck House which dates back to 1385, but it currently bears a huge For Sale sign which is temporarily rather spoiling its appearance , so I'll blip that some other time.
