MONOMONDAY: ANCIENT BUILDING

Plane Tower was built in 1449 by Thomas Somervell, 5th Lord of Plane. In 1528 he went on to build the Manor House. It was passed on to James Somervell, 8th Lord of Plane but unfortunately, he fell into debt and sole the Castle and Barony in 1643 and the Tower and Manor became ruined. In 1908 Sir David Menzies restored the Tower but it fell to ruin again in the 1930s. The Patrick Wright family started the present restoration in 1901 and it was completed in 1997.
