A dreich day

Dreich is a good word.   The various dictionaries have definitions such as dreary, bleak,  drawn out but in essence you know a dreich day when you see and feel one, and this was one.

There were heavy sleet and snow showers overnight and they were persistent  on the drive into the office.  There were then frequent squally rain showers in Dunoon blown on a strong westerly wind.  Everything was damp underfoot and going out for ten minutes left you soaked and chilled.  Looking down to the Clyde , there were white horses on the water and the hills of Inverclyde came and went in the mist.

But dreich can also be beautiful.    This is the view from the top of the Holy Loch, where the very high tides of recent days have broken through into the fields.  In the distance the hills above Loch Eck are snow topped and grey in the rain that is either falling, or about to fall.
