Posturing Pochard

This evening after work I spent an engrossing half an hour sat beside the lake to the rear of Waterside just watching the antics of the wildfowl on the lake. It was a warm, calm evening and the Pochards in particular were very active. There was a group of about six birds, male and female, who seemed to spend quite a bit of time squabbling, possibly competing for females. This led to some interesting threat displays, as captured here. Also getting in on the action from time to time were Coots and a Mute Swan. All in all, it was the best day of the week for photos on the lake.
