Shiva, the Indian Mahadeva, Great God, belongs to the Trimurti, Hindu Trinity together with Brahma, the Creator, Vishnu, the Preserver, Shiva is the Destroyer. Nataraja is Shiva as a cosmic dancer, dancing to destroy a weary universe preparing it for Brahma. The world now reminds me of Shiva's dance. This mask comes from a Delhi market full of clay artefacts. I loved all the masks there but dancing Shiva was the most impressive. It was the year 2005 and we were visiting India for our fourth time. That time we went to Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh. On our return I spent 2 months in hospital being diagnosed with typhoid.
