Moeraki Boulders

This morning as we drove away from Dunedin, Marian and I were talking about how our holiday was after being away for about five weeks. This sort of holiday is tiring, moving on and taking in so much new stuff every day. Please don't think we're moaning, we know how lucky we are to be doing this, it's just part of our evaluation. One of the things we came up with was that we're eating out all the time and we really fancied the idea of home cooking for a change. Well, as it turns out our new hotel by Lake Tekapo gives us, as well as a lovely view over the beautifully coloured lake, is a full apartment with a sitting room and kitchen upstairs. So we popped straight down to the local Four Square and bought the ingredients for a couple of meals (oh, and a packet of Tim Tams) and here we are after slobbing out on the sofa eating a home cooked vegetarian risotto.

Heading up the coast this morning, the main thing on our agenda was to visit the Moeraki Boulders. You may not have heard of them but if you look at NZ travel information you're likely to see them. The map we bought before coming has them on the cover. I didn't have too much hope of a great pic at the time of day (mid morning) we'd get there. That's so often the trouble travelling as we are. You only get one chance at a lot of things and can't dictate the time very easily.

As it turned out the weather conditions were great. We'd had sunshine and showers all morning and the combination worked well for me. I'm not sure what would be ideal as far as tide is concerned but this seemed pretty good too. Although there were a good few people there, I got there ahead of a large coach load so even managed to get the tripod out for a few shots and there are several with different exposure lengths here. Lucky or what?

So, today has worked out well and I've also got a good (but expensive) internet connection so while chilling out I'll hope to look in on a few of your journals and say "Hi".

Have a good day yourself. Oh and Happy Birthday George!

David
