Walls become pebbles

Walls become pebbles.

The wind whispers like a ghost,
Where voices once rang.

Went over to Tide Mills  today (ie. Sunday).  It's an abandoned village, which dated from 1770 when a flour mill was built there powered by the tides.  The village grew up around the mill.  But  eventually the changing topography of the shoreline meant that the mill was too isolated from the tide and could not operate.  The village continued to exist for many years but without electricity, water or sanitation eventually became condemned as unfit for human habitation and was abandoned in 1936.

Subsequently it was cleared to some extent by the military and was used as a defensive point and as a training ground for street fighting during WW2.

Now it is gradually being subsumed by nature.  The fallen bricks and rubble mingling with the shingle and the beach.
