A new chapter

This is David Robinson, the Scotsman's literary editor for a couple of decades. Downsizing of the Books section means he's retiring from the paper - but not without a party! The wonderful folk at the Scottish Book Trust organised a shindig at Edinburgh arts venue Summerhall for family, friends, colleagues, publishing folk and authors - Alexander McCall Smith, whose massively successful Scotland Street series began as a daily Scotsman serial commissioned by David, gave a lovely speech.

A massive highlight was David's niece, Keira, treating us to a couple of opera numbers - I suspect this young woman with the massive voice is going to make her own name in the arts.

EdiSteve is really not well at all, so we didn't stay as long as we'd like, but it was great to see one of the best people I know get the send-off he deserves. It's been, as they say, a pleasure and a privilege, David!
