Cecil Marden

Mr Edwin Marden was the big employer in our village in the early years of the 20th Century. He had a dairy farm with workers and the successful production of cream and cheese caused him to build a factory on land beside his house close by the railway station.  Cider Apple trees abounded in the area and before long he had also built a Cider Factory on the same site.  Easy access to the rail network made distribution of these products an easy matter.
He and his wife Jennie had six sons before at last conceiving a daughter.  The portrait is of Cecil their youngest son.  He died of his wounds in 1917 at the age of 31.  The grieving parents presented stained glass windows to be placed in the village church.
He has such a nice face and his collar, tie and waistcoat are sartorial excellence to my eye.  What a waste!
