Leave Donald Alone.

The Donald in question is the late Donald Dewar, Scotland's inaugural first minister, whose statue is to be removed from it's position in Buchanan Street and the steps leading to the Royal Concert Hall demolished to make way for a glass fronted atrium. Since the hall opened in 1990 the steps have been a popular meeting place and start off point for various types of demonstrations, during the run up to the referendum last year it was regularly used as a meeting place for the Yes campaign. It is now recognised by Glaswegians as a popular public space so understandably there is a lot of opposition to Glasgow City Council's plans to demolishe the steps during the expansion of Buchanan Galleries shopping centre, a centre which already has vacant shops.A huge car park has also been planned, surprising that the council feel we need more parking in Glasgow instead of encouraging the use of public transport and cycle ways. Hey ho. What do I know. Anyway, today there was a peaceful demonstration on the steps, people hoping the decision will be reversed, don't hold your breath.
