This morning it was time to return home.
A beautiful sunny morning in Aldershot, birds singing and perfectly still.
We set off at about 10.30, the route was clear and it looked like being a straightforward drive.
All was well until we got to somewhere near Preston, where the rain began to stiffen into sleet.
As we went further north the sleet turned to snow, and the temperature dropped to zero degrees. The snow got heavier until we were in a whiteout with huge goose flakes reducing visibility. Gratefully we left the motorway and got to within half a mile of home to find the road blocked by a car crash, so had to turn and take the lane, nearly had a head on collision but finally made it back to cat and home and a good four inches of snow. It was like coming home to a different continent!
