Mémorial du Mardasson... 

The Mardasson Memorial is a war memorial to the Battle of the Ardennes, Mardasson, northeast of the Belgian town of Bastogne, then the center of the battle.

The Mardasson Memorial was built on the initiative of the Belgian-American Association, an association that wants to honor the memory of the many young Americans who died here. The monument was inaugurated on July 16, 1950 and represents the lasting friendship between the Belgian and the American people, who fought shoulder to shoulder during the victory struggle they fought during the Battle of the Bulge in December '44 - January '45, and the crucial role it has played in the liberation of Bastogne... The monument has the shape of a five-pointed star, the symbol of the US Army, each with branches 31 meters long. It was designed by the architect Georges Dedoyard to commemorate the 76890 American soldiers who lost their lives during the Battle of the Bulge or were wounded or missing, to keep alive. The diameter of the central atrium is 20 meters and has a height of 12 meters.
