Pounding away

Sugar woke with several ideas of how she wanted her Saturday to go.  It included letting me sleep in.  (thank goodness....gosh, I love her!)

She wanted to work on a jigsaw puzzle, break open some geodes she got for Christmas AGES ago, and do some baking.  We got crackin' on the geodes.  There were 4 left to open.  The first two had only white crystals on the inside.  While this is pretty.....well.....the box showed some with purple and some with blue crystals.  I really figured it was misleading, and yes...yes it was.  The last four had only white as well.  She is happy with them...but wished the box hadn't gotten her hopes up.  Sugar took this photo of the geodes broken open. She now has them proudly displayed in her room.

We also set to work on a puzzle.  She got some many wonderful puzzles for Christmas and her birthday.  What a lucky girl.  We so enjoy working the puzzles together.

We also chose a recipe for some baking, but ran out of time to get started before we had to head into town to help out my niece with her science experiment.  We had the honor of being taste testers.  She baked 5 cakes.  All the same recipe...but she used 5 different types of eggs.  We had to taste test without knowing which cake was which and choose which one was most dense, crumbly, moist, and our favorite.  By in large the cake with the turkey egg was the clear winner among the 12 taste testers.  What fun.

Sugar was having wayyyyy too much fun with her cousins to leave right away, so we stuck around much longer than I intended.  When we finally departed, we stopped at the grocery store for some groceries and headed home.  We just had time to make dinner, and get our dough started for the thumbprint cookies Sugar had chosen as our baking project.  The dough was to chill overnight.  Whew.....busy day...but lovely.
